Week 3 - What to Wear & How's My Hair

Sorry you have to work on Sunday but...
At the moment I'm on a job hunt, so I may think about "dressing for success" more than the average person.  I think it's fun to work where business casual is the norm but there's room for style.  When you look pulled together, it's easier to act pulled together and find success on the job.
Take a look at Landry's
snazzy tie!
I bring this up because of the recent lack of professional-looking clothing on the sidelines.  When watching a football game, there is always that shot of the coach during important moments of the game.  You always see them yelling at the refs or shouting in their headset or yelling at the players.  Do you ever notice what they're wearing?

Back in the day, the coaches had some style.  Tom Landry of the Dallas Cowboys is known for his fedora.  His statue at Cowboys Stadium shows the coaching icon in his typical Sunday dress - fedora, suit, and the occasional trench coat for cool weather.

Vince Lombardi, the namesake of the Super Bowl trophy, also dressed professionally on game day.  What is the difference between now and then?  I wasn't around in the 50s and 60s but I think being professional was the norm - nice suit and a clean shaven face.  When a man was outside, a fedora or some sort of hat was required.

Belachick + hat and sweats.
Now the coaches look sloppy.  Bill Belachick of the New England Patriots is the worst.  Every week he wears a grey sweatshirt.  In warmer weather I've seen his sleeves cut off, and in cooler weather he adds a winter hat.  I'm not sure the players care, but I would have a hard time respecting a boss who dresses so poorly on the job.  I understand it's cold in Boston, but couldn't he wear a nice coat with the team logo on it?  There are heaters blowing warm air on them anyway!

On the other hand, Jack Del Rio of the Jacksonville Jaguars is a well-dressed head coach.  He wears a suit and tie most of the time and still looks nice when he goes casual with a collared shirt tucked into slacks.  Plus, he looks like he knows where to get a decent haircut and how to shave.  More coaches should look to Del Rio as the example of what a head coach should look like.

Del Rio on a casual Sunday.
Success on the field really doesn't have anything to do with style, because in fact the Patriots usually have a better record than the Jaguars.  But at least it's more entertaining for the gals to see coaches that dress nicely.  Have you ever watched ESPN on Sunday mornings?  There are hours and hours of pre-game chats by all sorts of NFL "experts."  I usually don't mind watching for a few minutes because some of those commentators can dress.  Maybe we'll discuss the ESPN guys later on in the season.

Polamalu and his long dark tresses

Troy Polamalu #43 of the Pittsburgh Steelers is known for his long, beautiful hair.  You may have seen his Head & Shoulders commercials.  His hair is so important to the hair company, they have taken out a $1 million insurance policy with Lloyd's of London.  You can visit www.troyshair.com to learn more his Polamalooza!

Not only is he famous for having great hair, he's also a pretty talented player.  Too bad the Steelers are having so much trouble this season with their quarterbacks - Ben is still suspended, Dixon needs knee surgery, and Leftwich has a sprained knee.  QB #4, Charlie Batch, will most likely play this week, according to the AP.

Troy is married to Theodora, who he met through fellow USC player Alex Holmes.  The Polamalus have two young sons, their oldest is almost 2 years old and the other was born last Thursday!

Week 2 - Monday Night Dancing!

Warner uses his fancy foot work on the dance floor
Tonight while the Saints visit the 49ers on Monday Night Football, you can try to convince your husband to flip over to Dancing With the Stars to see Kurt Warner in action.  Warner won the Super Bowl in 1999 with the St. Louis Rams and was voted Super Bowl and NFL MVP that year.  NFL players have been part of the show in the past, but he's the first quarterback to try to dance his way to the top.  Cheering Warner on will be his wife, Brenda, and seven children.

Team KURTanna
Warner is paired with Anna Trebunskaya, who has been dancing since age 6.  She won several international ballroom dancing awards before becoming a part of Dancing With the Stars.  Trebunskaya finished second in season 2 with Jerry Rice and second last season with Evan Lysacek.  She is married to Jonathan Roberts, another dancer on DTWS.

Personally, I have never watched an entire episode of this show.  I am usually aware of the celebrities who participate and how well they do, but this season I am actually interested!  But it's not Kurt Warner who has me intrigued - it's "The Situation" and Bristol Palin.  (Yes, it's embarrassing.)
Team Ballin'

Mike "The Situation" is one of my favorite people on Jersey Shore.  It amazes me how quickly people can rise to celebrity status.  The guy supposedly makes $5 million each season.

And I feel bad for Bristol Palin because I think she's just doing the show for money and 15 more minutes of fame.  Isn't she supposed to be attending college and holding down a part-time job while raising her son?  I would think filming a show in LA would cause her to have to quit school.  Bad idea Bristol!  Go back to school!

Cutler & Cavallari walking
 in NYC
Relationship Update:
Break Up - According to People.com, Kim Kardashian and Miles Austin broke up!  According to an unnamed source (of course), they made their relationship look casual but it was "the real deal."  That is, until they decided to end the relationship due to busy schedules that kept them apart.

Get Together - Chicago Bears' quarterback, Jay Cutler, is now dating Kristin Cavallari of MTV's The Hills.  They were photographed in New York last week on the way to a lunch date and have been spotted in Chicago together.

Logsdon Family Picks:
I haven't mentioned this yet, but Tom and I are competing this season with NFL game picks.  The contest is that we choose who we think will win each game and the one with the best record at the end of the season will win a yet unnamed prize.  So far we are tied 8-8 this week and 16-32 overall.  We both picked the Saints tonight, so we'll stay tied until next week.

Week 1 - Bengals, Brady & Basics

While I was in college, I wanted to be a serious reporter so I took everything seriously.  When our class had to attend the city council meeting, who was the only one who stayed the entire four hours?  Me, of course.  So it's embarrassing to admit that I love celebrity gossip, the ridiculous VH1 match-making shows, and E! News.

Cincinnati Bengals - #85 Chad Ochocinco & #81 Terrell Owens

Ochocinco: the face only a mother (or
woman desperate for money) could love?
One of the NFL's flashiest players, Chad Ochocinco of the Cincinnati Bengals, was the feature of this summer's latest VH1 match-making show, Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch.  (First of all, I have to mention that his legal last name is Ochocinco.  When he changes teams and #85 is taken, what will happen?)  Ochocinco did choose one of the contestants on the season finale, but I'm not sure if she knew he already has a girlfriend.  Chad has been tweeting and seen on dates with Evelyn Lozada, who is featured on the VH1 show, Basketball Wives.

Maybe next off-season, TO
will have a dating show.
VH1 must love professional sports because Ochocinco's friend and teammate, Terrell Owens, also has a reality show on the network.  The T.O. Show features Owens trying to fix his relationship with girlfriend Kari, but the latest internet gossip has him paired with singer Brandy Norwood.  Cincinnati fans can look for Ms. Lozada and possibly Brandy at Gillette Stadium, where Cincinnati is going to face the Patriots on Sunday.

New England Patriots - #12 Tom Brady

There isn't anything new to report about Brady's love life.  He is still married to supermodel Gisele Bundchen and their son will celebrate his first birthday in December.

Last week, Brady did run into trouble on the road.  On Thursday he was involved in a two-car accident in downtown Boston but walked away from the accident and attended team practice later that day. He is such a popular athlete that the car accident was breaking news on the morning talk shows.  The other driver, who ran a red light and caused the accident, was injured more severely and is still being treated at the hospital.

Austin & Kim, who may actually
admit they're dating soon!
Now here's the basics to start off the season:
#9 Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys - currently dating Candice Crawford, sister of actor Chace Crawford.

#19 Austin Miles of the Dallas Cowboys - currently dating Kim Kardashian, who will be at Sunday's game!

#4 Brett Favre of the Minnesota VIkings - is a grandfather! Here's the math: Brett is now 40.  His wife (then girlfriend) was 19 when their first baby was born, their daughter is now 21 and made Brett a grandpa in April.

#5 Donovan McNabb of the Washington Redskins - married to Roxie for 7 years & has 4 kids.

#8 Matt Hasselbeck of the Seattle Seahawks - married to Sarah for 10 years & has 3 kids  It's often confused that he's married to Elisabeth Hasselbeck of The View.  She's actually married to his brother, Tim, who also played in the NFL and is now an ESPN analyst.

#10 Vince Young of the Tennessee Titans - dating high school sweetheart Candice Johnson & had a new baby boy in July.

#10 Eli Manning of the New York GIants - married to Abby for 2 years.

#18 Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts - married to Ashley for 9 years. There were internet rumors of a pending divorce but nothing official.  She is a very successful businesswoman; maybe that's where Peyton gets it from.  By the way, why are the Manning boys so private?  Was that how their dad was when they were growing up?

#17 Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers - married to Tiffany for 9 years & has 4 kids.  He and Tiffany started dating in seventh grade!

#28 DeMarcus Ware of the New York Giants - married to Taniqua & has a 2-year old adopted daughter.

#84 Hank Baskett of the Philadelphia Eagles - married to former Playboy playmate Kendra & has a son, Hank III.  You can watch more of Hank and Kendra on her reality show on E!

#7 Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers - if you ever thought he was cute or nice, I'm warning you that he's not.  Ben is currently on a 4-game suspension and was not voted team captain this week because he's such a scumbag.  The suspension is for violating league conduct, which is a nice way of saying he had sex in a club restroom!  Ew.

Are you ready for some football... gossip?

I am married to a huge sports fan.  He will watch any sport on television but his absolute favorite is NFL football.  (Favorite team: Cowboys)  For most of our marriage, we have only had one TV in the house and I usually let him have the remote.  During casual TV-watching time at our house, his go-to channels are Food Network and ESPN.  I have watched more SportsCenter than any other wife in the world.

I remember when the NFL was only on Sundays and Monday nights.  Now there can be games on Thursday night, the rare Friday, a Saturday playoff game (or 2), the entire day on Sunday, and then on Monday night.  That leaves me with only two nights of the week to watch what I want.  So I have learned to be entertained with what happens outside the stadiums in the personal lives of the players.

I have decided to share my knowledge with the other wives and girlfriends out there that still like to sit on the couch with their man watching football.  Only now you'll be more excited about it.

Tonight's game is the Super Bowl Champion Saints playing the Vikings at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.  All New Orleans city offices are closed today, some schools are closed, and the whole city is having a party with Taylor Swift in Jackson Square.

Here's the dirt on the Vikings:
#4 Brett Favre: Anyone that even occasionally pays attention to sports should know about the Favre saga, so we won't go into that.  He has been married to the same lovely woman for years, so no gossip there.

Allen before falling in love!
#69 Jared Allen: Earlier this spring, he supposedly cut his famous mullet hairdo for his girlfriend.  Over the summer, they were married and we hope the mullet doesn't have a Samson effect.

#81 Visanthe Shiancoe: Not sure what his dating life is like, but it should have improved after an accidental towel adjustment revealed more than anyone bargained for back in 2008.

#28 Adrian Peterson: Still with his high school girlfriend and they have a daughter together.  Sounds like a good player and a good guy.

The dirt on the Saints:
Brees and son celebrating the victory.
#9 Drew Brees: The starting quarterback is the hero of New Orleans and is also a hero at home.  Last year after winning the Super Bowl, he was seen pictured with his infant son celebrating on the field.  Brees and his wife, Brittany, are expecting a second son in October.

#25 Reggie Bush: Everyone knows that Reggie and Kim Kardashian are broken up for good, but who is he dating now?  The lovely Mayra Veronica, a singer and model who looks a lot like Kim.  He's also facing the possibility of losing his Heisman Trophy from accepting gifts and other benefits while still playing for USC.

Tough guys can be clean cut.
#88 Jeremy Shockey: It doesn't seem like Shockey has moved on after breaking up with his last girlfriend, VIda Guerra.  (Is that her real name?)  In April, his Facebook page posted a contest to win a dinner date with Shockey.  I'm not sure if anything actually happened, but he does look a lot better with short hair.

That does it for tonight's game.  No famous female faces will be in the crowd cheering on their particular man.  Look for another post soon - I'll be posting the general scoop before the games on Sunday.
